West Point Societies and Parents Clubs are not formally federated; there is no parent organization. Each Society and associated Parents Club is autonomous and structured in a way that best suits the purpose and activities of its membership. Existing societies, however, are strongly related to each other and to the Association of Graduates in several important ways.

In general, Societies and the Association of Graduates have the common purpose of furthering public understanding and support of the United States Military Academy. They do this by enabling graduates, former cadets, widows of graduates and, in many instances, other friends of West Point to gather together in support of the Academy’s aims, ideals, standards, and achievements.

The West Point Society of the El Paso Area was organized in the mid 1950's with Major General Terry de la Mesa Allen, Ex'11 as the driving force. He served as President until his death in 1969. Frank Miter '26, Bill Wakefield '45 and John Karr '45 were his perennial staff members. In the beginning, the Society held a banquet on Founder's Day and a formal dance the evening before the Army-Navy football game. In the late 1970's and early 1980's, George Power '32, Bill Waugh '34, Jim Winn '34 and Bud Pitzer '45 broadened the activities of the Society.

Currently as a minimum, the Society meets at a luncheon once a month, holds a banquet on Founder's Day, sponsors an Army/Navy game get-together with all invited to watch the game on television, stresses the recruiting of high caliber candidates for West Point, sponsors in June every year a Mayor of El Paso supported West Point Day and luncheon honoring new cadet candidates and their families, and supports the many and varied Parent Club activities.

MISSION: The West Point Society of the El Paso Area aids in promoting the welfare of USMA and supports and serves its graduates, current and incoming cadets, and potential cadets and their families in West Texas and Southern New Mexico.

VISION: To grow the West Pont Society of the El Paso Area (WPSEA), Texas and remain relevant by providing outreach programs to graduates and current and potential cadets. In addition, the WPSEA will integrate with non-USMA agencies/graduates to provide a holistic relationship to serve the best interests of the Army and Nation.
